EVMWD calls for customers to reduce water use!

EVMWD enacted the plan in response to worsening drought conditions and related regulatory cutbacks in imported water that now threaten Southern California’s water supply. These cutbacks have made it necessary for residents to take proactive measures to save water to ensure a reliable water supply for the future.  "By taking a few quick and easy steps to save water, we can all work together to help protect our most precious resource," said Ben Wicke, EVMWD’s Board President. "We continue to see a lack of rain in our region, which is why we have to act now to save what we can to prepare for what could be another very dry year."

 "If each resident saves 20 gallons of water a day, not only will they help conserve our limited water supply but they can save up to $40 a year on their water bills," said Greg Morrision, EVMWD’s Director of Legislative and Community Affairs. "By making these small changes, each of us can help make a big difference." 

EVMWD recommends its customers take the following low cost and easy steps to reduce their water use by 20 gallons or more a day:  

Residential Customers

  • Irrigate 4 times a week or less
  • Irrigate only between 7pm and 7am
  • Avoid washing down of driveways or other hard surfaces
  • Prevent any runoff from irrigation
  • Install efficient irrigation systems
  • Plant new turf only between October 1 and April 1
  • Plant California Friendly landscaping
  • Install water conserving fixtures indoors
Commercial and Large Landscape Customers    

  • Avoid use of decorative water features
  • Routinely check irrigation systems and schedules to maintain high efficiency
  • Convert to "Smart" irrigation controllers if possible
  • Avoid washing down driveways and other hard surfaces
  • Plant new turf only between October 1st and April 30th
  • Plant California Friendly landscaping
  • Irrigate only between 7pm and 7am
