LAKE ELSINORE, CA - Ben Wicke, Vice President of the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District (EVMWD) Board of Directors, was recently elected to serve as Chairman of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) 2010-2011 Region 9 Board of Directors. The region includes all water agencies from San Bernardino, Riverside, and Imperial Counties.

"I am very pleased to serve with my esteemed colleagues on the Region 9 Board as Chairman," said Wicke.  "This position will allow me the opportunity to work with officials from various areas of the state on plans that effectively manage one of our most important resources – water."

Wicke has served on EVMWD’s Board of Directors since 1994 when he succeeded Charles Bryant.  Re-elected to the Board in 2006 to a four-year term, he also serves on the District’s Engineering and Operations Committee, and attends regular meetings with the Eastern Municipal Water District and Western Municipal Water District Water Supply Task Force. Wicke has also been on the Meeks and Daley Water board of directors since 1995 and President since 2001.  He also serves as a member of the Quail Valley Task Force and the Canyon Lake Water Subcommittee.

As the Region 9 Chairman, Wicke will also continue to serve on the ACWA Board of Directors in Sacramento.  "Region leadership is important to the success of the Association," said Paul Kelley, ACWA President.  "I look forward to continuing to work with Director Wicke on the issues important to Region 9 and the state."

ACWA Region 9’s primary goals are to provide a structure for agencies to meet and discuss water issues, provide the local outreach organization (grassroots support) necessary to advance ACWA's legislative and regulatory priorities, and provide a forum to educate region members on ACWA's priorities and issues of local and statewide concern.

"I will use this position to educate residents and stakeholders on the changing water issues in Southern California and throughout the state," said Wicke.

EVMWD provides service to over 140,000 water, wastewater and agricultural customers in a 96-square mile service area in Western Riverside County. The District is a sub-agency of the Western Municipal Water District, a member agency of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. You can visit the EVMWD website at www.evmwd.com for additional information.
